Mid-Morning Snack: Protein Packed Fage Yogurt Parfait

Easy, portable snacks can be hard to come by. Yeah, you can eat protein bars and protein shakes but it’s nice to get some “whole food” in there every once in a while. So here’s a quick, delicious, portable,  filling and macro-nutrient packed snack I eat almost every single day.

Greek Yogurt Parfait

(2) 6 oz. Fage Total 0% Yogurt (You can use any Greek Yogurt you like, I just prefer Fage)

15 Chopped Almonds (Never though you’d use that slap-chop? Think again!)

3/4 cup frozen blue/rasp/black/strawberries (No Sugar Added)

*OPTIONAL: 1 Tbsp Splenda or Stevia

NUTRITION: (In Phase I and need less carbs? Cut the berry serving to 1/2 or 1/4 cup)

Calories: 371/Protein: 36g/Carbs: 31 g/Fat: 10 g

WHY: Fage Greek Yogurt is awesome. Cottage Cheese used to be my “Easy Snack” go-to but Fage Greek Yogurt has easily replaced it with less sodium, better taste, more protein and gut-loving digestive enzymes. And just so I don’t sound too biased, I’ve tried Dannon (BITTER), Brown Cow (Soupy), Chobani (A close second) and Yoplait (soupy AND bitter) Greek Yogurts and for me, nothing comes close to Fage’s mild taste (plain Greek yogurt can be sour), super-thick consistency and texture.  The almonds give fiber and good clean fats while the berries give fiber, carbs and anti-oxidants. And bonus: the frozen berries keep the yogurt cold for maximum portability.

Fage Greek yogurt is about $1.50 for a 6 oz. container at Wal-Mart (can be up to $2.00 per container elsewhere). If you’re looking for more value, it’s also available in a 16 oz. container for a few cents less per oz. Coach MC mixes hers with Stevia sweetener. I like mine plain.

Great Fage recipe! I do this one a lot myself, but I like to use the “Wonderful Almond Accents” with cranberries. I like that the almonds are already in slivers. The cranberries do have a bit of added sugar (5g), but it’s way less than the popular Craisins has.
