Economics of Shakeology (IE- How I– And You– Can Afford It)

FROM THE VAULT: As a Beachbody Coach, I’ve found there’s few people who don’t love Shakeology or the idea of drinking it. Like zero, even. On the other hand, there’s also a few who have a hard time convincing themselves to pay for it. And I can understand that– I was there too. After all, $4* a serving sounds awesome but suddenly the perception shifts when you mention that comes out to $129 a bag for a 30 day supply.

If you’ve found yourself in the same frame of mind, I took the time to whip up a few comparisons that illustrate Shakeology isn’t an ADDED cost– it’s a cost you’re already paying for in your grocery bill– you’re just supplementing that $129 you’d spend on snacks, cereal or eating out at Subway out for something BETTER. This is how I wrapped my mind around it and why we now get two bags every month— and afford it.

Here’s a real-world breakdown on the cost per meal you’d replace with Shakeology– all while getting better results from a better nutritional profile. I chose “junk meals” and “clean meals” (clean carb, protein) and mixed them together to show comparisons as far as COST** goes.  I excluded “snacks” as they’re not as nutritionally dense as a meal and Shakeology is not a “Snack” replacement. I also excluded dinner as in all cases (especially going out to eat), it’s more expensive than $4 a serving.

No surprise, Shakeology is a direct cost exchange (but more convenient and WAY more nutritious) or money-saver:

Home Made Egg Sandwich Breakfast

6 eggs @ .50 = $3.00

1 Whole grain English Muffin = .41

Lean Turkey Bacon 2 strips = .50

Fat Free Cheese Slice- 2 0z = .50

TOTAL: $4.41

Oatmeal Fruit and Egg Breakfast

Oatmeal= .10

8 oz. (1 c.) 0% Milk = .15

Grapefruit= .72

6 eggs = $3.00

TOTAL = $3.97

McDonald’s Breakfast

Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin = $3.89

Orange Juice = .99

TOTAL: $4.41

Subway Lunch

6″ Oven Roasted Chicken on Whole Wheat = $3.75

OR

6″ Turkey Breast on Whole Wheat = $4.00

Chips (naughty!!) + Bottled Water = $2.50

TOTAL= $6.25- $6.50

Chili’s Guiltless Grill Lunch

Guiltless Grill or “Big Mouth Burger” = $6.99- $8.79

AVERAGE TOTAL: $7.89

Do-It-Yourself Sandwich/Lunch

2 slices Whole Wheat Bread = .45

Fat Free Cheese Slice: .50

2 Tomato slices: .22

Lettuce: .23

1 Tbsp. Olive Oil Mayo: .10

3 servings deli meat = $1.11

Romaine/Spinach Salad = .96/$1.49

TOTAL = $4.10

Shakeology

Direct = $4.00 per serving/meal

Team Beachbody Discount (10%) = $3.60 per serving/meal

Coach Discount (25%) = $3.00 per serving/meal

TOTAL = $3.00 – $4.00 per serving/meal

In short, stop the madness of depriving yourself this awesome shake because you see $129 up front. Fact is, Shakeology’s already in your budget. What’s more,  it’ll probably save you money vs. any daily meal you’re currently eating AND will give you more nutrition than any one of these meals alone (one serving of Shakeology gives you 300% of your daily Vitamin C, for example). Think of it as a 30 day supply … like lunch/breakfast food storage for 30 days.

*$4 serving is Shakeology’s cost without Team Beachbody or Coach discounts.

** All prices and costs per serving were calculated using Wal-Mart grocery pricing. Add anywhere from .50 or more to each meal if you shop elsewhere. Pricing obviously doesn’t cover “sale” items.
