Eating Clean: Fage 0% Yogurt

If there’s one thing folks who start P90X or any other program worry about, it’s sticking to the nutrition recommendations and eating clean. Eating “clean” (IE- avoiding overly processed foods, processed sugars, fatty meats, simple carbs and all their glycemic jacking pals) doesn’t have to be boring and it doesn’t have to be an exercise in eating baked cardboard. Still, sometimes you can find yourself in a rut and long for something to change it up– a switch-up that won’t mess up your nutrition goals, but something that will make you feel like you’re being 100% “I’m in Vegas” naughty.

That said, your sinless treat has arrived. Introducing Fage 0% Yogurt.

First off, I’m telling you: Fage 0% yogurt pulls all comers sweatpants down and paddles their naked bum-bums with superior authority. Much more mild than traditional plain yogurt (not overwhelmingly bitter), no fat …(not that fat’s bad, mind you), no added sugar, artificial sweeteners or ingredients yet it’s thick like sour cream with an embarrassingly smooth and silky texture. All from skim milk and active cultures. That’s it. The best part? It’s a mere 90 calories for a 6 oz. serving, loaded with 15 grams of protein and only 7 (naturally occurring) sugars which also make up its carbohydrate content.

I usually eat two of these legit treats for a morning snack, mixed with a cup of frozen fruit and a half serving of almonds (10). Mixed together, it’s got an almost perfect nutrient breakdown for the Phase II section of the P90X diet (40% protein, 40% carb, 20% fat), with 34 grams protein, 34 grams carbs and 19% fat.

As Fage 0% is a Greek style yogurt (highly strained to create insane thickness), this dream come true is a bit more expensive than the traditional stuff. Still, with what it offers nutritionally and for pure taste enjoyment, it’s worth every extra penny.
