How Do I Get Fit - P90X, Insanity and Beachbody fitness Coaching. You can change your body. This is the place to start.

XBOX Fitness: P90X, Insanity and The Power of Kinect

Love or hate the new XBOX One (gamer or not), a recently leaked page on Xbox’s website has revealed something P90X and Insanity fans should be pretty stoked about: P90X and Insanity (courtesy of Tony Horton and Shaun T) are both coming, in part, to XBOX One via XBOX Fitness:

Introducing the future of fitness. Experience the world’s best workouts with instant, personalized feedback, right in your home on Xbox Fitness. Train with Jillian Michaels, Tracy Anderson, P90X, Insanity and more. Optimize every workout with immediate feedback on your form, power and heart rate with the all new Kinect, featuring Muscle Mapping, Power Gauge, and Pulse. Plus, feed your motivation with social challenges. Unlimited access is yours with an Xbox Live Gold membership through November 2014. Only on Xbox One.*

What makes this extra cool is the fact Xbox Fitness incorporates the Kinect 2.0; XBOX One’s camera/motion detection technology, which is rumored to be quantum leaps ahead of the current Kinect in its technology and what’s it’s capable of seeing.. And while the Kinect has certainly had its fair share of privacy criticism and creepiness, the fact it can give immediate feedback on things like form, speed, heart rate (yes, it can monitor your heart rate) and incorporate performance goals in relation to the P90X or Insanity workout you’re doing, well… that’s pretty cool.

Check it out the YouTube sizzle reel, complete with a “C’mon Y’all, Let’s Goooooooooo!” Shaun T. voice-over and Tony Horton X-ing it up:

XBOX Fitness Details: A P90X and Insanity Sampler

So wait… P90X and Insanity will be on XBox One? Not exactly, while the workouts will be there, they are only samples (Insanity’s Plyometric Cardio Circuit and P90X’s Plyometrics). If you want the full workout, you’ll still have to pick up the full programs (which are worth every penny). Beachbody (the makers of P90X and Insanity) provide a little more detail:

“…Xbox owners will be able to sample a limited number of titles form the P90X and Insanity catalogs (no complete programs), complete with invitations to join Team Beachbody for support from a coach… [Coach Note: like yours truly] .”

The Fitness service, its feature and workouts will be available to all Xbox Live Gold Subscribers through November 2014, which means if you have the Live membership, you have a full year to get sweaty until they add features and close it off as a paid service.

Despite not having the full P9)X or Insanity program, the fact you can perfect your form and “get a feel” for training correctly with Kinect and program sampler workouts? Awesome.

XBOX Fitness: Changing The Game?

When we first picked up a Kinect a couple years ago, we gave “Kinect Adventures” a shot. While jumping and hopping (and sweating) from side to side, I noted to my lady-friend the reality of getting a pretty decent plyometric workout if you decided to push through a few rounds of the “Reflex Ridge”levels. The XboX Fitness platform makes all kinds of sense as an organic extension of the Kinect tech as “using your body as the controller” naturally lends itself to fitness activity.  After all, watching yourself moving and sweating with built in personal benchmark and monitoring tech can work wonders.

Of course, as noted above, to get the full P90X and Insanity experience, you still have to buy the programs but in lieu of me or Tony Horton being in your living room and giving you feedback, the Xbox Fitness feature can still give you a pretty decent benchmark and, above all possibly help improve form an technique, something critical to avoiding injury and maximizing your results.

It’ll be interesting to see how, or if, this concept expands or takes off.

All I know is the announcement of Xbox Fitness has pushed me a little closer to actually picking up that XBOX One… and hopefully, pushed a few people closer to really giving a couple great programs like P90X and Insanity a real shot.
