Coach Check-In: Holiday Fitness

Christmas is just around the corner, which means… we’re in the thick of it now! The holidays are here and it’s crunch time!

Work parties, family gatherings, church socials, gift giving… you name it, it’s happening as we all try to make this the “hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny…. Kay!” It’s a great time of year and one where we tend to look past ourselves and what we can do to help others. Here’s to keeping that spirit year ’round!

Of course, when it’s all said and done… New Year’s is right around the corner. And with a new year comes the new commitments… like recommitting to our health and physique with fitness programs like P90X, Insanity, Asylum, Turbofire or even Les Mills Combat and Body Beast. I’m here to help and Fit Spot! is available to offer support and inspire. Take advantage of us! Find success! Look back in a few months and say “I FINALLY DID IT”!

Don’t let life make you stumble in the pursuit of what you really want. Don’t make this year a start/stop fiasco. Get dedicated… and mean it.

Our very own team member Carlos S. was just notified he’s the winner of the $500 Daily Beachbody Challenge for his Body Beast results! Carlos took progress pictures, punched excuses where it counts and did “Whatever It Takes” to get serious results by simply pressing play every day and following the nutrition guide for 90 days. Speaking of Holidays, here’s a few Holiday Tips to get you geared toward a great 2013 kick-off and avoid being beaten by the festivities:

1. Get Your Work Out In

Over the next week or so you’re going face to face with the ugly mug of progress-busting temptation. It’s unrealistic for me to sit here and tell you to “be strong” and “skip the fun”. Fact is, we’re going to cheat a little bit. But keep the emphasis on “a little bit”. Don’t turn a speedbump into a brick wall. Working out will keep your metabolism cranking and serve as a nice reminder your Holiday isn’t necessarily a free-for-all.

2. Eat Normally

If you’re visiting or heading over to friends/family… eat normally and a bit before you go. A full stomach keeps the hunger weakness away and helps avoid the tendency of overeating. Keep yourself full as you would any other day and when “feedin’ time” time comes, you’ll find you eat like a normal You instead of half-starved, binging and reactionary You willing to drink a bowl of gravy to nip the hunger pangs in the bud.

3. Pick The Good Stuff, Don’t Eat Everything

You don’t need to gorge by grabbing a sample of everything. Choose what you plan on eating and stick to it. Holiday meals make eating easy as there’s usually plenty of vegetables. Load your plate there and at the turkey plate instead of the mashed potatoes, casseroles and sweets sections.

4: Remember, Remember…

Holiday food doesn’t control you– YOU are in control of your holiday food. It just takes saying “no” to junk once or twice to show yourself you don’t need it as you pursue your goals. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy- it just means not making your holiday into a gateway to Bingetown and a year of bad habits. :)
